or partially ejected, which tells us as collision investigators that they were improperly restrained inside the car. >> reporter: this early morning accident happened on the 98th avenue off-ramp from 880 in oakland. investigators say this car was traveling fast when it lost control on the curve and if it you look closely, you can see it was split into two pieces. san leandro police say they were chasing this car when the crash happened. they say an officer saw the car driving erratically through the parking lot of this food max store and tried to pull the driver over, but the car took off and police pursued. after the crash, investigators searched the car. >> we did find some beverage containers for alcoholic beverages, however we do not know if impairment is an issue. >> reporter: investigators say the three people killed were a 27-year-old man, a 29-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman. the woman who survived the crash was taken to highland hospital in oakland with life- threatening injuries. and san leandro police tell me they will do an administrative investigation into the chase

veteran who was seriously hurt. tonight doctors tell us that scott olsen is improving. jana katsuyama brought us his story last night. tonight she's learned about an emotional reunion he had with his parents. >> reporter: it was today when his parents flew into oakland and got to see their son for the first time. the doctor at highland hospital tells me that scott olson is conscious. he's in the icu and let me tell you that comes as a huge relief to all the people that have come out here to to light candles for him. today in a vigil, more than 1,000 people sat quietly with candles and posters with his photo. >> it's unfortunate to get this many people out here like this to support him. i'm glad they're out here for him. >> reporter: tonight was a moment of peace after tuesday's night of chaos after the 22- year-old suffered a fractured skull. the chief of surgery said he's come out of an induced coma. although olson does not remember tuesday night. >> when he came in, he was unconscious. now he's processing everything. >> reporter: and he recognized his parents. signs of a community h

officer and a former officer have both been arrested. ktvu's robert handa is here now and tell us what they're accused of stealing, robert. >> reporter: the san jose chapter of the national latino police officers association used to be in this building behind me. as we first reported at noon, this complaint filed by the d.a.'s officer, says that two leaders may have embezzled money and forced the association to collapse. villanueva spent 17 years on the force, filagrana helped give scholarships to children. but filagrana is now in custody for embezzling from the association. filagrana withdrew large amounts of cash for his own use. in 2007 more than 23,000. and in 2008 more than $50,000. and another 9,700 in 2009. >> we thought it might be a few thousand dollars here and there cash. not accounted for or poor bookkeeping but we encountered a significant amount of theft going on. >> reporter: vilegrana was released from the force for separate reasons. but another man, marco ibarra was also arrested for embezzling money. no one responded at vilegrana's house today. a friend said she was i

are doing. >> reporter: san jose police spokesman wouldn't give us an exact number but said at least 70 officers will be here at the oak hills cemetery later today for the security funeral service. however, police will remain outside the gates, outside the perimeter, of the cemetery. they won't be coming in for the gravesite service of 52-year- old steve towson, a high- ranking member of the hell's angels, shot and killed after this cemetery two weeks ago during the funeral service of another hell's angel member. three to four thousand people attended that service. and police say that huge crowd made it difficult to respond to the shooting to secure the crime scene, and later apprehend the shooter. in contrast, today's funeral service for towson is supposed to be much smaller since it will be by invitation only. that's a security precaution police worked out with the family ahead of time. meanwhile, the man police believe is responsible for towson's death is still on the run. police say 38-year-old steven reese got in an argument with towson before he pulled out a gun during the serv
